Some things will be more specific and some more general, but to start off this club I used something that had once been asked me (ie. how do you capture a water droplet) I felt that in discussing this people would learn about differant shutter speeds and the effect on the outcome of the picture. (which in turn will relate to other things because a droplet is a moving thing) Now I'm not an expert on photography, I'm not trying to teach people things, just provide a platform for learning and discussing, I'm sure there will be things that I don't know how to do, but when I post it, I will learn.

I suppose you can't please all the people all the time :)

Well, the name of your first topic IS "the water drop," which sounds pretty specific to me. For discussions, you may want to find someone with a subscription who will let you use their private forum.

It wasn't really supposed to be teaching to do specific pictures, more that the picture is an example of a technique, I've just started this so maybe I haven't explained it properly, I think as we do a few more of these things, it will become more apparent, and the main thing is that people can ask whatever question they want about capturing photographs and it will become a topic for discussion, I will always try to find an example picture that fits the subject but even if it's more general that's fine too :)

I think it is good to have a place for new photographers to learn. Photography is damn hard, and most people don't realize that. However, what good is it to teach them all to take the same photographs that have been seen over and over again? Wouldn't it be better to give them more open-ended abstract ideas to push their minds and their understanding of the art of photography? I do agree with aiding 'newbies' in their attempts at photographic technique. There are so many techniques to learn it's mind-boggleing. But maybe instead of giving them such a specific thing to photograph, give them an excercise like 'moving objects,' 'depth of field (how do I make the foreground blurry and the background sharp? - I hear this one all the time)' and things like that that introduce a technique without making the new photographers into little robots. There are so many things- shutter speed-fast, long exposure, aperture, lighting-backlighting, studio lighting, natural lighting, low light, diffused light, etc, perspective, etc. The main challenge to a new photographer is to Not just make cliche photographs. Why encourage it?
